OPENWAVE ANNOUNCES NEW CONTEXTUAL ADVERTISING SOLUTION

End-to-End Solution Designed to Help Operators Capture Value from Targeted Advertising

BARCELONA, SPAIN, Mobile World Congress - February 11, 2008 -- Openwave Systems Inc. (Nasdaq: OPWV), one of the world's leading software innovators enabling revenue-generating personalized services which converge the mobile and broadband experience, today announced the Openwave Contextual Advertising solution, a modular, end-to-end advertising and content recommendation system that is designed to allow operators to capture value from targeted advertising by leveraging their existing subscriber relationships and unique network assets.

"At Openwave, we are anticipating a shift away from a traditionally segmented, media channel-based advertising approach to a much more holistic, user-based approach that crosses multiple channels including the mobile, PC and TV media," said John Boden, Openwave's Senior Vice President of Product Management. "This multi-channel, user-based approach is reflected in our new personalization driven advertising solution. Our solution is designed to enable operators to capture a greater portion of advertising revenue by offering advertisers an integrated channel for delivering higher ROI ads and offers. Furthermore this solution allows operators to offer subscribers the opportunity to receive only highly targeted and relevant advertisements, offers and recommendations, based on their immediate context, interests, location or demographic."

The Openwave Contextual Advertising solution is designed for mobile and broadband operators to leverage the enormous amount of subscriber knowledge available within their network to deliver superior targeting. By leveraging a holistic view of the subscriber, Openwave's solution uses real-time context, user behavioral history, location information and voluntarily provided user data to determine and recommend relevant ads and offers. For advertisers, this results in the delivery of highly targeted - and higher ROI - ads and offers across multiple subscriber touch points including the PC, mobile and TV.

Openwave's modular Contextual Advertising solution includes the Openwave Personalization System, a targeting engine that leverages key subscriber data, including historical behavior/transactions, expressed preferences, demographic information, and other data to infer user preferences. The comprehensive solution also includes an advertising broker, delivery application modules, ecosystem management and advertising APIs. Its modular design allows operators to implement elements to capture advertising revenues tailored to their needs.

The Openwave Contextual Advertising solution is offered as a hosted solution to accelerate time-to-market by minimizing resources required to quickly begin participating in the advertising marketplace.
