  4th ANNUAL NAVTEQ GLOBAL LBS CHALLENGE, SPONSORED BY NOKIA, PREVIEW SESSION AT CTIA [Partner Release]
 

  LBS Challenge Preview at CTIA Wireless IT & Entertainment, September 13, 2006, 11:15am - LA Convention Center, Hall G
 
Chicago, IL - September 12, 2006 -- NAVTEQ (NYSE: NVT), a leading global provider of digital map data for vehicle navigation and location-based solutions, will be hosting a preview session of the 4th Annual NAVTEQ Global LBS Challenge™ at CTIA Wireless IT & Entertainment at the Los Angeles Convention Center on September 13, 2006 at 11:15am. Immediately following CTIA's keynote session, NAVTEQ will present an hour-long program that includes an overview of the LBS Challenge and a panel discussion from previous winners and official judges.

The NAVTEQ Global LBS Challenge is open to application developers from around the world to build innovative location-based services (LBS) that work with mobile phones and wireless handheld devices using dynamic positioning technology and NAVTEQ® maps. The LBS Challenge has expanded to include:
  • Presenting winning developers with an increased prize pool of over $2MM in cash and prizes including data licensing fees from NAVTEQ and LBS Challenge sponsors;
  • Expanding an already elite panel of judges comprised of representatives from major wireless carriers, industry experts, and venture capitalists including Verizon Wireless, Sprint, Cingular, Helio, i-Hatch Ventures, Bain Capital, T-Mobile, Telus, Nokia, Motorola, MK Capital, and Openwave Systems;
  • Offering new NAVTEQ content specifically tailored to the demands of the wireless market. LBS Challenge contestants will be given complimentary access to NAVTEQ's newly launched NAVTEQ Traffic Mobile, NAVTEQ City Guide, and NAVTEQ Traffic Patterns.
For the second year, Nokia is joining NAVTEQ as the Global Sponsor of the LBS Challenge. The LBS Challenge has also brought together a rich mix of industry resources participating as platinum sponsors including: Autodesk, deCarta, ESRI, KnowledgeWhere, Motorola, Networks in Motion, and Openwave Systems. LOC-AID, SiRF Technology and WIN/BC are participating as gold and media sponsors.

The Global LBS Challenge offers developers four solution categories in which to submit applications. These categories include:
  • Business Applications (Asset Tracking / Field Services / Billing / Buying / Advertising)
  • Entertainment and Leisure (Gaming / Location-based Imaging / Athletics / Travel)
  • Navigation (POI Look-up / Traffic)
  • Social Networking (Peer to Peer / Find Me / Personal Security)
Global registration for the Global LBS Challenge is currently open and will close at midnight CT on November 10, 2006. All LBS Challenge solution entries for the Americas Region must be submitted on or before midnight CT on January 5, 2007 and received by midnight CT on January 12, 2007. The winners - for each of the four solution categories as well as one grand-prize winner - will be announced in Europe at the 3GSM World Congress in Barcelona, Spain on February 14, 2007, and in North America at the 2006 CTIA Wireless in Orlando, FL on March 28, 2007.
