  CTIA RE-ELECTS OPENWAVE'S DAVID PETERSCHMIDT TO BOARD OF DIRECTORS
  

  Peterschmidt's Expertise and Insight Help Shape Telecommunications Industry Agenda
 
LOS ANGELES, CTIA IT & Entertainment - September 12, 2006 -- Openwave Systems Inc. (Nasdaq: OPWV), the leading independent provider of software solutions for the communications and media industries, announced today that its President and CEO, David Peterschmidt, is being re-elected to the CTIA (Cellular Telecommunications and Internet Association) board of directors. Originally elected a year ago, Mr. Peterschmidt has helped set CTIA's strategic leadership direction on several key issues and initiatives.
