CLOUDMARK MESSAGING SECURITY SOLUTION HELPS COX COMMUNICATIONS PROTECT CUSTOMERS FROM EMAIL ABUSE [Partner Release]

Technology Blocks Spam and Phishing at Network Edge; Reduces Costs While Shielding Subscribers

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - August 16, 2006 -- Cloudmark announced today that Cox Communications has deployed the Cloudmark Authority platform to combat spam and phishing for its broadband subscribers. Deployed within the messaging infrastructure offered by Openwave Systems (Nasdaq: OPWV), Cloudmark increases the protection to end users by blocking abusive traffic and significantly reduces downstream processing power and network storage requirements. Along with the growing volume of spam, illegal and fraudulent phishing scams aimed at eliciting personal information are rapidly escalating in number and are growing more sophisticated as phishers become more organized.

"Cox Communications deployed Cloudmark in order to provide greater protection to our subscribers from email abuse. Thus far, we have been extremely pleased with its effectiveness in blocking spam, phishing and viruses," says Veenod Kurup, Vice President of Data Product Services at Cox Communications. "Intelligent blocking provides significant savings on downstream messaging infrastructure and improved customer experience."

Cloudmark Authority demonstrates 20+% greater accuracy at stopping spam in head-to-head trials, while consuming 5-20% of CPU utilization, vs. 80-90% for legacy systems. Cloudmark Authority also reduces the volume of mail consuming costly storage space. In analyses of service provider message stores, Cloudmark has verified that as much as 70% of stored messages may be spam, a result of inaccurate filtering by legacy systems, which can lead to a waste of 18-25% of storage space.

"We are proud to have exceeded Cox Communication's stringent requirements not only for accuracy but also scalability and manageability of its messaging security solution," says Bassam Khan, Vice President of Marketing at Cloudmark. "Cox is renowned across the telecommunications industry for its high-capacity, reliable broadband network. Cloudmark is helping Cox achieve that goal by providing their customers the highest possible level of protection."

The Cloudmark Authority secure messaging platform consistently leads the industry in rapidly detecting and deterring spam, phishing and message-borne viruses with the fewest "false positives." Cloudmark applies an optimal blend of technological automation with a global threat detection network of proven reporters flagging suspicious messages and sophisticated real-time fingerprinting algorithms that rapidly adapt to fight the latest threats. This unique combination of actions results in real-time response to emerging threats, enabling service providers like Cox to stop a threat from reaching its subscribers.

"The Cloudmark Authority solution is at the forefront of preventing messaging abuse at the edge of the network," said Gani Nayak, vice president, messaging group, Openwave. "Deployed on Openwave's messaging platform, Cox Communications now has a robust solution that not only reduces operational costs, but offers customers a high level of security and reliability."
