  Openwave Mobile Browser Shipping on Over 600 Million Devices; Sagem, Siemens and Motorola Rolling Out V7 Phones
 
REDWOOD CITY, Calif. - August 9, 2004 -- Openwave Systems Inc. (Nasdaq: OPWV), the leading provider of open software products and services for the communications industry, today announced the continued growth of its client software products with shipment of the Openwave Mobile Browser on over 600 million handsets, and over 600 phone platforms, from more than 50 handset manufacturers worldwide. Additionally, Openwave Mobile Browser Version 7 (V7), the flagship application from its next generation client software suite, has been trialed, tested and successfully shipped in phones from leading manufacturers, including the first i-mode phone in Europe from Sagem, the 65 series of phones from Siemens, and is currently being integrated into Motorola's next generation handsets. A total of ten manufacturers have licensed V7 and value its features as a way to improve the user experience of mobile data.

In less than two months since Openwave announced the integration of IBM® WebSphere® Everyplace Micro Environment into Openwave® Phone Suite Version 7, the two companies have also secured their first deal, with leading chipset provider PrairieComm. This level of growth clearly demonstrates Openwave's continued success in delivering and integrating the core data engines that help phone manufacturers reliably enable a growing number of increasingly complex services. Openwave strives to help these manufacturers build distinctive, highly targeted devices in a cost effective way, bringing intuitive phone experiences to more subscribers.
