  OPENWAVE SIGNS MULTI-MILLION DOLLAR CONTRACT TO PROVIDE NEW EMAIL MESSAGING PLATFORM FOR TELSTRA
 

  Openwave Mx 6 Allows Telstra To Deliver Enhanced Email Messaging Services to BigPond ISP customers
 
REDWOOD CITY, Calif. - May 3, 2004 -- Openwave Systems Inc. (Nasdaq: OPWV), the leading provider of open software products and services for the communications industry, today announced that Telstra has selected Openwave as its preferred Internet messaging infrastructure supplier. Telstra will deploy Openwave's Email Mx Version 6 as part of a wide-ranging improvement program for Telstra's BigPond ISP service. Openwave's Email Mx is a highly scalable, integrated, platform used by a growing number of wireless carriers and internet service providers throughout the world to deliver email and multi-media messaging services.
