  OPENWAVE REACHES MILESTONE - ESTIMATES 66% OF WORLDWIDE INTEGRATED CAMERA PHONE SUBSCRIBERS NOW USE OPENWAVE MMS INFRASTRUCTURE
 

  More Than Ten Operators Choose Openwave Technology to Offer Differentiated Multimedia Messaging Services to Subscribers
 
REDWOOD CITY, Calif. - July 8, 2003 -- Openwave Systems Inc. (NASDAQ: OPWV), the leading independent provider of open software products and services for the mobile communications industry, today announced that Openwave technology has been chosen to power multimedia messaging at more than ten customers, including five CDMA operators, to enable delivery of differentiated services to subscribers worldwide. Recent customer wins include Cincinnati Bell and Taiwan Cellular Corporation. Additional customers include major operators in North and South America, Europe, Asia, and Africa.

Offering a flexible and feature rich multimedia messaging platform, the Openwave Multimedia Messaging Service Center (MMSC) allows operators to deliver services such as video messaging, personalized web applications, and rich third party content such as games, news and weather. Openwave now estimates that approximately 66% of worldwide integrated camera phone subscribers now use Openwave MMS infrastructure. The Openwave MMSC infrastructure technology currently supports over 13 million integrated camera phone subscribers and more than three million video-enabled phones.

In addition, Openwave is collaborating with a number of client software companies and handset manufacturers to deliver the best experience on more devices. More than 45 devices are already supported using Openwave software.
