TELUS MOBILITY SELECTS OPENWAVE TECHNOLOGY FOR NEW IMAGES AND RINGTONE DOWNLOAD SERVICE ON NEXT GENERATION NETWORK

Polyphonic Ringtones and Exclusive Warner Brothers Content Easily Downloaded with Openwave's Software

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. - November 4, 2002 -- Openwave Systems Inc. (Nasdaq: OPWV), the leading independent provider of open software products and services for the mobile communications industry, today announced that TELUS Mobility has selected Openwave’s download technology for its new nationwide Images and Ringtones Downloads service, allowing its clients across Canada to download hundreds of ring tones and images to their PCS phones. TELUS Mobility has already deployed Openwave’s messaging infrastructure and gateway technology to power its full suite of Wireless Web services.

“Openwave has proven wireless data expertise and implementations around the world helping operators deliver differentiated services that enhance the client experience, ” said Robert Blumenthal, TELUS Mobility’s vice president products and services. “After reviewing several solutions, we found Openwave’s download technology to be the most efficient way to transfer content to handsets, allowing our clients to personalize their wireless phones in a fun and entertaining way.”

Through the use of Openwave’s download software, subscribers use their wireless phone’s Web browser to discover compelling content for their phone, using a personalized view of available content. On selecting the desired content from the storefront, payment is confirmed and the content can be downloaded immediately over-the-air to the wireless phone. Charges for purchased content can be applied conveniently to a client’s wireless phone account.

“TELUS Mobility’s launch today is a significant milestone for the wireless industry in North America, which brings new innovative and entertainment services to market,” said Richard Wong, senior vice president of marketing of Openwave. “We are encouraged by recent successful CDMA launches for advanced services, and believe TELUS Mobility’s ability to offer exclusive content on compelling handsets over its 1X network will propel new users to personalize their phones with ringtones and images. We look forward to working with TELUS Mobility to enhance the user experience of these new services.”
