Strategic Alliance with Openwave Systems Brings End-to-End Solution to Power Intuitive, Entertaining and Personalized Mobile Internet Experience for DiGi Customers

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. and KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia - October 29th 2002 -- Malaysia’s leading telecommunications player, DiGi Telecommunications and Openwave Systems Inc. (Nasdaq: OPWV), the leading independent provider of open software products and services for the mobile communications industry, today announced that DiGi has deployed a suite of Openwave solutions that enable its customers to access an exciting line of mobile data services.

DiGi’s customers have always been early adopters of new data services. Their sophistication demands the latest and most appealing services, thereby requiring DiGi to continuously innovate to bring new and powerful applications with the highest level of service. Openwave’s end-to-end solution is comprised of the Openwave® Mobile Access Gateway, Openwave® Provisioning Manager and Openwave® Download Fun. This solution is designed to enable DiGi to offer a variety of revolutionary interactive services that are also easy-to-use and highly personalized, making them the premier wireless service provider and trail-blazer for progressive IP-based mobile communication services in Malaysia.

“Mobile phones are increasingly becoming a necessity among our community and we expect mobile phones to soon become the prime channel for communication, entertainment and personal productivity services,“ said Madam Chua Seok Theng, Chief Information Officer at DiGi. ”Openwave’s solution will enable us to offer a highly leverageable infrastructure to immediately provide our customers with new and compelling applications,“ Madam Chua added.

Openwave’s end-to-end solution are designed to give DiGi’s customers a superior “out-of-the-box” experience – from introducing them to mobile data services with zero effort - to accessing interesting mobile Internet content. Openwave Provisioning Manager is designed to allow DiGi customers to instantly activate their handsets over-the-air for both voice and data services. This secure provisioning provides better customer service while reducing operating and customer care costs. In addition, the seamless initiation promotes service trials and encourages rapid consumer adoption. The Openwave Provisioning Manager supports most of DiGi’s existing GSM/GPRS handsets.

Openwave Download Fun is designed to enable DiGi’s customers to personalize their handset with a variety of downloadable entertainment content such as ring-tones and wallpapers. Such personalization services are expected to drive strong customer demand, high user satisfaction and incremental revenue to DiGi, while instilling customer loyalty.
