  OPENWAVE SYSTEMS JAPAN ANNOUNCES MANAGEMENT CHANGES
 

  TOKYO - June 11, 2001 -- Openwave Systems Japan K.K.(head office: Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo), the Japanese subsidiary of Openwave Systems Inc. (Nasdaq:OPWV), the worldwide leader of open IP-based communication infrastructure software and applications, announced today that Trung Mai stepped down from his position as CEO of Openwave Systems Japan on May 31, and Arata Hirao became the new general manager for Japan as of June 1.

Before joining Openwave, Arata Hirao was president of Invisix Asia Pacific Inc., a joint venture established by Motorola Inc. and Cisco Systems, Inc. His prior experience also includes serving as service provider solution director at Nortel Networks Japan and information network development manager at IBM Japan, Ltd.

Mai will relocate to the U.S., and will be assigned to a new role within the company. Kazuhiko Ishii remains as COO of Openwave Systems Japan, continuing to oversee Openwave’s sales and marketing activities in Japan.
