DIVERSINET AND OPENWAVE SIGN AGREEMENT TO INCREASE SECURITY OF INTERNET-ENABLED MOBILE PHONES

Agreement to Provide Enhanced Security for Users of Openwave's UP.Browser Microbrowser

TORONTO, Canada AND REDWOOD CITY, Calif. - December 11, 2000 -- Diversinet Corp. (NASDAQ Small Cap: DVNT, CDN: DVNT), a leading provider of m-commerce security infrastructure solutions, today announced the completion of an agreement with Openwave Systems Inc. (Nasdaq: OPWV), the combination of Phone.com and Software.com, to embed Diversinet's WAP-compliant root certificate into the Openwave™ UP.Browser® microbrowser, adding increased security for users in the WAP environment. Diversinet's presence on WAP-compliant phones will enhance security for network operators and consumers who use m-commerce and other personal information services.

By way of the agreement, all WAP 1.2.1-compliant handsets shipped by Openwave's UP.Browser licensees will include Diversinet's root certificates, which are compliant with the WAP Forum's Wireless Transport Layer Security (WTLS Class II). The enhanced security provided by Diversinet's root certificates will also support Openwave's recently announced Secure Enterprise Proxy. The Secure Enterprise Proxy provides complete, standards-based end-to-end security for the delivery of wireless Internet content and applications to mobile handsets using Internet Protocol (IP), and works with all currently available wireless data standards including GSM, CDMA, TDMA, iDEN, and CDPD networks. In addition, the solutions will work with GPRS and 3G technologies, once they are fully realized.

The agreement provides new opportunities and expands the market for the WTLS server certificates issued by Diversinet's customers who have licensed Diversinet's WTLS certificate issuing servers.

Furthermore, Diversinet and Openwave may enter into co-marketing activities, including joint participation in sponsored events on wireless security.

"We are pleased to enter into this agreement with Openwave, the recognized leader in bringing the wireless Web to mobile devices," said Nagy Moustafa, President and CEO of Diversinet Corp. "The next generation application for the wireless Web is m-commerce and entering into a partnership with Openwave at this early point makes tremendous sense for our business model."

"Openwave customers demand the highest level of security available for subscribers," said Jeff Damir, group vice president of Openwave's Device Products Group. "By providing Diversinet's root certificates in the UP.Browser product, we give our network operators and users of the Secure Enterprise Proxy more flexibility in choosing a vendor for server certificates and enhanced security."
