BALTIMORE TECHNOLOGIES AND OPENWAVE TEAM TO BRING INCREASED SECURITY TO WIRELESS TRANSACTIONS

Baltimore Telepathy Chosen to Provide Security for Openwave's Market-Leading WAP Microbrowser, UP.Link Server and Enterprise Proxy products

DUBLIN, Ireland and REDWOOD CITY - December 11, 2000 -- Baltimore Technologies (NASDAQ:BALT; London:BLM), a global leader in e-security, and Openwave Systems Inc. (NASDAQ: OPWV), the combination of Phone.com and Software.com, today announced they have entered into an agreement to integrate Baltimore's wireless e-security offering with Openwave's market leading range of WAP products to accelerate the adoption of trusted wireless transactions.

As part of this agreement, links to the Baltimore Telepathy wireless certificate service will be integrated into the Openwave? UP.Link? Server (WAP Gateway) and the recently announced Openwave Secure Enterprise Proxy. This agreement allows Openwave's global customer base of leading mobile operators to have the opportunity to use Baltimore Telepathy wireless e-security products and services.

Baltimore is a Premier Root Certificate supplier for the Openwave UP.Browser® microbrowser, the leading WAP browser on the wireless handset market. By embedding Baltimore's root digital certificates into the Openwave UP.Browser, Openwave's wireless network operator customers are able to offer wireless services with additional layers of security and authentication for those subscribers engaging in wireless transactions such as m-commerce and m-banking.

"Our wireless network operator customers are rapidly expanding their wireless Internet services and recognise the added value that enhanced security brings to their businesses. The Baltimore Telepathy range of leading wireless e-security solutions offers a high level of trust and end-to-end security making them a natural strong partner in this next evolution of trusted services," commented Jeff Damir, group vice president of the Device Product Group for Openwave.

Using Baltimore's wireless e-security, Openwave's customers can easily request and install WTLS Server Certificates on the UP.Link and Secure Enterprise Proxy, providing an additional layer of standards-based end-to-end security for the delivery of wireless Internet content and applications to mobile handsets. The co-operation with Baltimore addresses next-level security requirements of application developers of mobile banking and mobile commerce services as well as corporate intranet applications that can be safely extended outside a company's firewall to a mobile workforce.

"As the wireless Internet becomes more important and accessible, we must ensure that service providers and consumers have confidence in the security of this new medium. Through our relationship with Openwave, Baltimore can extend an important level of mobile trust to the majority of WAP users worldwide. In addition, Openwave and Baltimore will work closely together to drive the adoption of a secure and trusted environment for mobile commerce and payment transactions," commented Paddy Holahan, EVP of Global Marketing at Baltimore Technologies.

This collaboration further demonstrates Openwave's continued commitment to providing enhanced security capabilities to its customers, and leverages Baltimore's experience in standards-based, scaleable security solutions together with its worldwide expertise and resources. This compliments Openwave's announcement of the Secure Enterprise Proxy and enables end-to-end security can be easily established by phone users with trusted services.
