Ken Denman, Chief Executive Officer
Ken Denman is chief executive officer for Openwave Systems (NASDAQ: OPWV) where he is focused on executing Openwave's corporate strategy and growing the company's global market share with innovative software infrastructure products and services for mobile and broadband operators.
Ken's career spans more than 20 years in the global telecommunications and IT industries. Before Openwave, Ken served as chairman and CEO of iPass, a world leader in platform-based enterprise mobility services where he guided the company in leveraging the explosion in new broadband and wireless access technologies to make them real and globally available to any enterprise or service provider. Under Mr. Denman's leadership, iPass grew its revenue by 200 percent and went public in 2003.
Before joining iPass, Ken was the founder, president and CEO of AuraServ Communications, a managed service provider of broadband voice and data applications. Earlier, he served as senior vice president at MediaOne's National Markets Group (now part of Comcast) where his teams exceeded new subscriber growth targets and dramatically reduced customer churn. He also served as chief operating officer of MediaOne's International Wireless Group, leading international joint ventures including what would become the leading wireless providers in Poland, Hungary and the Czech Republic.
Ken also serves on the board of ShoreTel, Inc., (NASDAQ: SHOR), a leading provider of Pure IP unified communications systems headquartered in Sunnyvale, California.
Ken holds an MBA from the University of Washington and a BS in accounting from Central Washington University.
Anne Brennan, Chief Financial Officer
Anne Brennan has over 20 years of leadership experience in corporate finance. As Chief Financial Officer, Anne oversees Openwave's finance, information technology and corporate services departments. Anne has been with Openwave since 2000, initially located in the company's regional EMEA office before joining the corporate finance team at the company's headquarters in 2005. Prior to her appointment as CFO, she served as Openwave's vice president of finance as well as Openwave's interim CFO in early 2008. Before joining Openwave, Anne had a long career with Racal Group where she held various financial positions, most recently serving as financial controller.
Anne has a BA degree in Accountancy from Glasgow Caledonian University and is a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants.
John Giere, Senior Vice President, Products and Marketing
As senior vice president of products and marketing, John Giere is responsible for growing the company's global market position, bringing carrier-grade solutions to service providers around the world as well as developing business with new and existing accounts.
John has over 20 years of experience in management, marketing and business development. Prior to joining Openwave, John served as chief marketing officer of Alcatel Lucent (and Lucent Technologies previously), where he spearheaded global marketing initiatives and go-to-market strategies which led to the successful positioning and sales of new solutions.
Before joining Lucent in December 2003, he spent seven years at Ericsson leading a number of strategic marketing, branding and business development initiatives globally.
John currently serves on the Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) Executive Board. He holds an MBA from the University of Maryland and a BS degree from Georgetown University.
Sean MacNeill, Senior Vice President, Global Services and General Manager Americas Sales
Sean MacNeill is senior vice president of global services, and general manager of sales for the Americas region.
Sean brings over 15 years of experience in general management, strategic planning, product management, sales and operations to Openwave. Prior to joining Openwave, Sean spent seven years at Dynavar Corporation, an integrated communication solutions developer to service providers and large enterprises. As president and chief operating officer, he was responsible for the day-to-day operational, financial, and strategic initiatives and activities of the company. Sean led the sale of Dynavar to Sun Capital Partners who merged Dynavar with Solunet Inc. where he served as chief operating officer.
Before Dynavar, Sean held a variety of senior level management positions in sales, marketing, and operations for such companies as Vocalscape Communications, a VoIP software developer, and Intrinsyc Software, Inc., a mobility software and services company.
Sean holds a B.A. with distinction and an M.B.A. from the University of Victoria in British Columbia, Canada.
Heikki Mäkijärvi, Senior Vice President, Business Development
As Openwave's senior vice president of business development, Heikki Mäkijärvi is in charge of evaluating and managing the company's new strategic business opportunities, partnerships, alliances and joint ventures. Heikki has worked in the telecommunications and networking industry for over 25 years, most recently with Accel Partners.
As a Venture Partner with Accel Partner in London, Heikki worked on the team which invested in over 80 companies in Europe and Israel. During his tenure, he led investments and served on the boards of several companies, including Getjar, Telepo and watAgame. He was a board observer at Kagoor Networs (acquired by Juniper Networks), and worked in an advisory role with Aspendos Communications (acquired by Beceem), Go Networks (acquired by NextWave) and Wichorus. He also advised Facebook in cooperation with Nokia.
Prior to joining Accel, Heikki worked in the Business Development and Strategic Alliances team for Cisco Systems in EMEA. Before Cisco, Heikki had a 15 year career with Nokia, where he worked in the R&D organization and held a variety of management positions in Nokia's global product marketing and business development organizations.
Heikki holds a M.S. in Electrical Engineering (Telecommunications and Computing) from Helsinki University of Technology, Espoo, Finland.
Martin McKendry, Senior Vice President, Engineering
In his role as senior vice president of engineering, Martin McKendry is responsible for the worldwide engineering and quality teams. Martin brings to Openwave a wealth of executive leadership experience in leading global engineering organizations. Most recently, Martin was vice president of R&D at Avaya, where he led a team of 700 engineers in 10 locations around the world. During this time, he introduced Agile development processes and shipped Avaya's first J2EE product.
Prior to Avaya, Martin served as vice president for applications at Siebel where he led the application group through four major releases during the five-year period of explosive growth. Martin has undergraduate degrees from New Zealand, and holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Illinois at Urbana. He served on the faculties of Carnegie-Mellon University and Georgia Institute of Technology.
Eileen Nelson, Senior Vice President, Human Resources
As Openwave's senior vice president of human resources, Eileen Nelson is responsible for overseeing the recruitment and retention of highly qualified employees, and for maintaining a unified global culture across the business. Eileen is a recognized human resources expert with over 28 years of experience hiring, developing and retaining the best and brightest employees.
Most recently Eileen returned to 3Com as senior vice president of human resources where she focused on creating a unified culture in a diverse global organization. Prior to 3Com, Eileen was vice president of human resources for Tropos Networks, the market leader in intelligent IP broadband mesh networks. Previously, she was senior vice president of HR for eBay and senior vice president of Corporate Services at 3Com where she led a team of over 200 professionals worldwide.
Eileen attended Queens College, CUNY, and the Advanced Program in Organizational Development and Human Resources at Columbia University. She sits on the Advisory Board of the HR Executive Forums, the Santa Clara University executive education program, and is a trustee of Theatreworks and the Thrive Foundation.
Alan Park, Senior Vice President, Worldwide Sales
As senior vice president of worldwide sales, Alan Park is responsible for the successful execution of Openwave's global sales strategy. Alan is a seasoned industry executive with over 28 years of experience starting and managing direct and indirect sales operations, and growing both new and existing accounts.
Before Openwave, Alan served as senior vice president and general manager, field services division for Trimble Mobile Resources Management (formerly @Road, Inc.). Prior to @Road, Alan was president and CEO of Praxid, a provider of hosted business management applications. His other leadership roles include sales and executive management positions at IBM, Compaq, Digital and Sybase, where he sold integrated solutions to companies ranging from the Fortune 500 to small and mid-sized companies.
Alan has a B.S. in finance from Oregon State University, and he is a graduate of the United States Navy Nuclear Power Engineering Officer Program.
Bruce K. Posey, Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary
As senior vice president, general counsel and secretary Bruce Posey will lead Openwave's legal team, oversee vital regulatory and governmental relations efforts, and lead secretarial matters for the board of directors. Bruce comes to Openwave from iPass Inc. where he managed their legal team and played a key role in setting policies and developing standards and practices across the company.
Prior to joining iPass, Bruce served as general counsel and corporate secretary at AuraServ Communications, a managed service provider of broadband voice and data applications. Earlier, he was senior vice president of federal relations and regulatory law for US WEST Communications, and vice president of public policy and external affairs for MediaOne.
In 1992, former Colorado Governor Roy Romer appointed Mr. Posey to serve as executive director of the state's Department of Administration. Bruce holds a B.S. in political science from the University of Oregon and a J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School. He is also a member of the California (registered in-house counsel), Colorado and Oregon State Bars.
