More than this, Openwave has policies and business practices that contribute to the well-being and development of its employees. Openwave employee policies include:

In addition, the following Employee Programs are currently in place at Openwave:

  • Tuition Reimbursement Program - In an effort to support the continuing professional development of its employees, Openwave assists employees with reimbursement for qualified educational expenses.
  • Health and Fitness – Complimentary membership for Redwood City and Belfast employees at local athletic facilities.
  • Employment Law Training – Opewnave provides mandatory discrimination and harassment training for all US employees, and non-US based managers that manage US-based employees or contingent workers.
  • Affirmative Action - Openwave in the United States is an Equal Employment Opportunity, Affirmative Action Employer that complies with all federal and state laws regarding non-discrimination. Openwave has completed its 2010 Affirmative Action Plan. The Affirmative Action Plan is a set of documents designed to facilitate and demonstrate Openwave’s good faith effort to provide a workplace free of prejudice. Human Resources prepares, on an annual basis, a set of statistics based on record keeping as it relates to applicants, new hires, promotions, terminations and demotions.
  • Diversity Training – Openwave employees in South Africa attended a Diversity Awareness workshop conducted by TDCI, which offers a comprehensive Diversity, Employment Equity and Inclusion training portfolio.

Health and Safety Certification

OHSAS 18001 by SGSOpenwave received OHSAS 18001 certification for its Redwood City office. Openwave’s OHSAS 18001 certificate number 00011421 was registered on May 21, 2010 and expires on May 21, 2013.

Openwave’s OHSAS 18001 certification process commenced in March 2011 in the Belfast facility. On April 6, 2011, the auditor recommended the Belfast office for OHSAS 18001 certification. Openwave expects to receive the OHSAS18001 certificate for the Belfast office by the end of May 2011.

Openwave is also working towards OHSAS 18001 certification for its Japan office. In additon, the Openwave Japan office implemented a Health and Safety program in 2007 and has also established a Health and Safety committee to comply with requirements imposed by Japanese authorities.

Awards

Investors In People have awarded Openwave's Belfast office their Gold Standard for exceeding requirements set by the organization for consistent high business performance. Becoming an Investor in People organization shows Openwave's commitment to continuous business improvement through its people.
The Gold Status honor is bestowed upon as few as one percent of employers across the UK every year. Openwave is the only company within their industry in Northern Ireland to be awarded Gold Status from Investors in People.
